The Toffees made a terrific start to the season and have improved drastically under Carlo Ancelotti's watchful eye, but will be pushed to their limits by a City side that have won the last five meetings between the two clubs.

City have not been the free-scoring side that we've come to know in recent seasons with the absence of Sergio Aguero - due to injury - a huge blow. But despite a continued struggle for goals, the Cityzens are unlikely to bring in any reinforcements during the January transfer window.

"No, I don't think so because the economic situation around the world is what it is," said Guardiola when asked if the club would bolster their attack in the new year. "All the clubs struggle - we are not an exception."

While City have lacked a cutting edge up front, their defence has improved with the arrival of Ruben Dias an instant hit. As of Christmas, City boast the strongest defence in the division having conceded just 12 goals in 13 matches.

"Ruben doesn't make a single mistake and he is always focused," Guardiola added. "Our club bought an exceptional defender - especially for the personality.

"What is important when you buy a player is that you have a feeling they will be settled for the next few years. And we are pretty sure Ruben will give us big moments."

City beat Everton 3-1 in the corresponding fixture last season with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling. In total, the Cityzens are unbeaten in six Premier League matches against Everton dating back to a 4-0 loss in 2017.
