Nigeria will headline Day 2 at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup when they open their Group D campaign with a match against Qatar at Tychy Stadium on Friday 24 May, kick-off at 17h00.
The Flying Eagles were the lowest-placed qualifier from the continent (they were fourth-place finishers at the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations), but they generally punch above their weight on the global stage: Nigeria have appeared in 11 previous U-20 World Cups and finished runners-up twice, in 1989 and 2005.
Paul Aigbogun’s team, however, may find Qatar to be tough opponents: the Asian qualification tournament is fiercely competitive and the Middle Eastern team boasted its top scorer, with Abdulrasheed Umaru netting seven goals.

The other Group D game on May 24 takes place at the Bielsko-Biala Stadium and sees the Ukraine take on United States. The Americans are regulars at the U-20 World Cup (this will be their 16th appearance compared to just a fourth for Ukraine) and they have reached the final eight in each of the last two editions of the tournament.
Group C opens at 17h00 at the Lublin Stadium with Honduras v New Zealand, two teams who were both present at the last U-20 World Cup in 2017: the former exited in the group stage, while the latter got as far as the last 16.
Finally, at the Lodz Stadium, South America’s Uruguay will take on European qualifiers Norway, who enjoyed a surprisingly strong showing at the UEFA U-19 Championships last year to earn their first U-20 World Cup appearance since 1993.
