Rory McIlroy will be determined to redeem himself by clinching the Masters title after narrowly missing out on the 2022 trophy.
What to know about McIlroy
The Northern Irish superstar is one the greatest golfers of his generation having won 36 professional tournaments including four golf majors.
The man nicknamed Rors won the 2011 US Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship as well as the 2014
PGA Championship.
News
Rors came close to winning the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in March as he finished third behind Cameron Young and champion Sam Burns.
McIlory finds himself placed second on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and he will make his return to competitive golf at the Augusta National Golf Club.
Why McIlroy is among the favourites
The 33-year-old is set to make his 15th Masters appearance and has top-10 finishes in seven of the past nine years at Augusta National.
On the 72nd hole in 2022, McIlroy made birdie from the greenside bunker to shoot 64 and finish runner-up for his best round and best result in the Masters.
If he wins this year's Masters' title, Rors would join Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as winners of the career Grand Slam.
Quotes
“I feel like I’m driving the ball better, I’ve got a driver I’m more comfortable with, and my putting really progressed as the week went on here,” McIlroy said after competing in the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
“Augusta has become more of a driving course as the years have gone on and it didn’t used to be, but approach play is still the big key at Augusta and I felt like I hit my irons and wedges well this week.
“I always feel the most confident when I feel the most prepared, so for me it’s about just making sure I do the right things next week so I know I’m ready to go."
