The battle for a top-four finish in
La Liga is set to heat up when Real Betis welcome Villarreal to the Estadio Benito Villamarin on Sunday, April 13.
The Yellow Submarine (5th) missed out on the chance to put even more pressure on Athletic Bilbao (4th) after they played out to a 0-0 draw on April 6, leaving the gap unchanged at six points.
Betis are still tied with Marcelino's side on 48 points after they too shared the spoils with league leaders Barcelona in a 1-1 draw on April 5 which extended their unbeaten run to seven matches.
However, the Castellon outfit do crucially have a game in hand on the Lions and the Glorious, although Athletic have by far the better goal difference of the three teams.
Manuel Pellegrini's side have only kept three clean sheets in their last 10 outings, but they've also scored at least two goals in seven of those encounters.
Meanwhile, Villarreal's goalless stalemate with the Basque Country club was only the second time in 10 matches that they'd failed to get on the scoresheet.
Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo has revealed they are exploring options to keep Antony in Seville after the on-loan Manchester United winger's superb start to life in Spain.
"It is a source of satisfaction on a personal level [to have brought Antony to Betis)] but it is the result of teamwork. Although I am responsible for the sporting management, there are many people involved in this signing," Fajardo said.
"It's still early, but we will try in different ways to do everything possible to continue enjoying Antony."
Marcelino believes the performance against Athletic shows what his players are capable of and is convinced they will qualify for the UEFA Champions League with similar displays for the remainder of the season.
"If we can play like we did today, we're going to score a lot of points. I'm satisfied with the game and the performance," the Spaniard said. "We outplayed them. Athletic are a very difficult team. I'm happy, although it's a shame we didn't get the three points."
