Antonio Conte, the Inter manager, was pleased with his side's solidity despite having dropped points in their 1-1 draw with Napoli on April 18.
"There are some who might have thought that we could have less hunger than them this evening and that this was a bonus match," Conte said.
"But let’s just say my pneumatic drill was loud and clear in the players’ minds. The lads understood the importance of not giving hope to those who are in pursuit of us.
"It’s true that AC Milan and Atalanta have gained two points on us today, but we showed our solidity on a mental level.”
Meanwhile, AC Milan, who are placed second on the standings, are set to welcome Sassuolo at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on April 21.
The two teams will clash for the 17th time across all competitions with Milan having dominated this rivalry.
Milan have registered 10 victories compared to Sassuolo's four victories, while two matches ended in a draw.
