2025 Formula One World Championship
2025 Chinese Grand Prix
Round 2
China Shanghai International Circuit
Shanghai, China
Sunday, 23 March 2024
Lewis Hamilton will be keen to clinch a record-extending seventh
Chinese Grand Prix title as he returns to Shanghai.
Most recent race
The Ferrari driver endured a disappointing race at the Australian Grand Prix on 16 March, the most recent race in the 2025 Formula One World Championship season.
Hamilton started on the eighth grid, but he was passed several cars which saw him finish 10th at the Albert Park Circuit.
Formula One title ambitions
The 2003 British Formula Renault winner is placed in the 10th spot on the World Drivers' Championship standings having accumulated one point.
Hamilton is 24 points behind leaders, Lando Norris of McLaren and 17 points behind second-placed Max Verstappen.
Why Hamilton could win the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix
The 40-year-old is the most decorated driver in the history of the Chinese Grand Prix, having won the race a record six times.
Hamilton won the race in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019, and he will be looking to make it seven wins this weekend.
What did he say?
"Not the start we wanted, but there’s lots to take away and work on from this one. The start was okay, but I lost momentum out of Turn 1 on the outside of Charles and got stuck behind Albon for most of the race," Hamilton said after the 2025 Australian Grand Prix.
"The rain always mixes things up, and strategy comes down to timing and a bit of luck. We took a gamble and made up places, but then boxing too late for Inters cost us, dropping us to the back of the top 10 with too much ground to recover.
"I struggled with the balance, but it was an important race for learning more about the car in different weather conditions, as well as gaining more experience working with a new team. McLaren and Red Bull had serious pace, so there’s work to do, but we’ll dig deep. I’m looking forward to getting back in the car next weekend in China."
