The Los Angeles Lakers will host the New York Knicks in what promises to be a cracker at the Crypto.com Arena on Friday morning.
While it’s revenge on the Knicks’ mind, the Purple and Gold will be hoping to dominate the West as they target their eighth win on the bounce in this clash.
It was an impressive win for the Lakers last time these two sides met. Not only did they pull off a win without the services of Anthony Davis, but they also saw world-class performances from LeBron James with his 33-point showing, while Austin Reaves and Max Christie also chipped in valuable work.
According to reports, Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns will be available for this game. The center wasn’t on the floor on Tuesday as the team crumbled late against Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors, scoring just 21 points in the fourth quarter as they lost 114-102.
It was speculated that Towns would not be making the trip, as his coach Tom Thibodeu said to leave the star alone for some time.
“When he’s ready to come back, obviously we want him back. But he needs some time right now,” he said.
The NBA community was stunned when news emerged of Anthony Davis being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic, and the impact was immediate, reshaping the Western Conference.
The Lakers have surged to the second seed, riding a seven-game winning streak. On the other hand, the Mavericks are struggling, hampered by injuries to their crucial players including the ex-Lakers center.
Doncic showered praise on his teammate LeBron James as he became the first player to score 50,000 combined points in the NBA regular season and post season.
“It’s amazing, watching him do this stuff at this age,” said Doncic.
“It’s just unbelievable, that 50K points. I can’t even explain how insane that is. He might get to 70K. You never know.”
