Serie A matches, relegation-threatened Venezia will be going up against title contenders Napoli in a bid for three points at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium on Sunday, 16 March.
Venezia played a hard-fought away 1-1 draw against Como with Christian Gytkjaer’s stoppage time penalty making sure they came away with a share of the points in the previous matchday.
Manager Eusebio Di Francesco recently expressed frustration at how his team didn't manage to finish their chances. “We have produced a lot but in the final choices we are missing something,” he said.
“I am fed up with these penalties, they are being given away today so cheaply, and I am fed up because my boys must understand that the details make the difference.”
On the other hand Napoli are in a tight race for the Scudetto and are neck and neck with current champions Inter Milan, with only one point separating them after 28 matches played. Their last match saw them 2-1 against Napoli to keep up the pace, with Romelu Lukaku getting on the scoresheet.
Gli Azzurri manager Antonio Conte has hit out at the media for under-estimating his team’s achievements and criticising his tactics, saying: “You are making what the team is doing seem normal when it really isn’t. I have to underline that: this is not normal.”
“There are big players injured, you say it’s normal, the most talented player leaves, it’s normal. The lads are doing something extraordinary here.”
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has shared his predictions in the Serie A title race, backing either Inter Milan and Napoli to fight for it until the end. The tactician also shared that he doesn’t see Atalanta or Juventus as genuine contenders despite their good results.
For Conte, he can heave a sigh of relief following this latest result against Fiorentina as it's Napoli’s first since January. "In a growth path, it is normal that after creating so much for 60-65 minutes and getting to 2-0, conceding a goal can generate excessive anxiety,” he said.
"You have to be good at managing it, cooling the moment and keeping the ball more, continuing to do things in the right way without conceding dangerous situations. The boys did well. I'm happy."
The manager will be hoping his charges can keep up the momentum when they travel to go up against Venezia this coming weekend.
