San Antonio Spurs v Cleveland Cavaliers

Tip-off at 01:00

The San Antonio Spurs will have a task on their hands as they prepare to go head-to-head with the high-flying Cleveland Cavaliers at the Frost Bank Centre on Saturday morning, 5 April.

The Spurs are languishing in 13th position in the Western Conference, as opposed to the Cavs who are occupying first in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavs recently lifted themselves up from a four-game losing streak, bagging their 60th win of the season against the in-form Los Angeles Clippers led by their star shooting guard, Donovan Mitchell.

Coach Kenny Atkinson described Mitchell’s performance as the best of the season, and that reaching 60 wins was beyond what he expected at the beginning of the campaign.

“I didn’t expect 60 wins,” Atkinson said. “My internal goal was: ‘Can we improve from last year?’ That was kind of where my mind was, but for this team to take it to another level and kind of shatter that says a lot, and we’re not done — we can still add to that.”

“But we’ve got to celebrate this. It’s not the end goal, but we should take a deep breath and celebrate 60 wins. It’s so hard to do in this league. I’m really happy for the guys today.”

Donovan Mitchell led the charge with a strong all-around performance, scoring a significant number of points and also making a major impact on defence with four steals, earning him high praise from coach Atkinson.

Devin Vassell's impressive recent form has ignited discussions about his potential long-term position with the San Antonio Spurs.

It’s also raised questions about how he will mesh with the team's expected core, including highly touted prospects like Victor Wembanyama and potentially De'Aaron Fox, as the franchise embarks on its rebuilding journey.

"He's dynamic offensively," says Detroit Pistons coach J.B Bickerstaff about Vassell.

"He puts a ton of pressure on you. It seems like every single touch is an aggressive scoring touch. He has the ability to drive the basketball, he can shoot the basketball, he can create in one-on-one situations. It seems he's ahead of the game on the offensive end, and you continue to see him get better."
