Serena Williams will look to break her Grand Slam drought at the 2019 US Open, which will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City from 26 August to 8 September.
Williams stands on the verge of history, as she is just one major title behind Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles title, but she has lost her last three finals (2018 & 2019 Wimbledon, and last year’s US Open).
Last year’s US Open final was the infamous loss at the hands of Naomi Osaka in which Williams had an on-court meltdown and heated exchanges with umpire Carlos Ramos.
With that now well behind her, the veteran will look to get back to winning ways and claim a seventh US Open title – this would not only see her match Court’s overall record, but make the 37-year-old the most successful singles player at the US major in the Open era.
However, there are several major threats to her ambitions, including defending champion Osaka, Wimbledon champ Simona Halep and the likes of Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Ashleigh Barty.
