Eastern Conference leaders, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be going up against the West’s San Antonio Spurs at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Friday morning.
The Cavs recently had a dip however before recovering with their most recent win against the Utah Jazz. When they dropped their fourth consecutive game, Donovan Mitchell spoke to the media.
“Put this one on me,” he said, patting himself on the chest.
“Four games don’t define who I am as a player. But it’s going to be loud. When we’ve had success the way we’ve had, and then lose four straight, it’s easy to point to [my shooting].
“For me, it’s just doubling down on my work. I’m not going to run from it. I’m not going to run from the criticisms. This is the road I have. This is my job.”
The San Antonio Spurs are likely headed to the
NBA draft lottery for the sixth consecutive year.
However, unlike last season, their lottery-bound fate isn't due to a lack of talent but rather season-ending injuries to key players Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox, derailing any playoff hopes.
Despite this, the remaining Spurs players are determined to finish the season strong.
The Spurs are riding a three-game winning streak and enter their next three games against the Pistons Cavaliers and Celtics with supreme confidence.
While the Spurs could theoretically lose to any team they've adopted the mindset that they can also beat anyone.
"We're playing every game to win, and that's always been our MO, just staying competitive, staying locked in on defence, is going to trigger a lot of wins for us, truthfully," said Devin Vassell after a defensive masterclass in a win over the Toronto Raptors.
