This world cups comes with a couple of firsts, here are some interesting stats following the first two weeks of action.
- Having appeared in the world cup six times, Tunisia finally managed to beat a European team for the first time. They didn’t beat just any team, it was in-fact current World Cup champions France who saw a 1-0 defeat to the Northern Africans.
- Without the inclusion of penalty shootouts, Ghana became the first nation to miss two penalties against the same team. The first loss was a result of Asamoah Gyan’s miss in 1996 followed by Andre Ayew’s miss this year.
- Gavi also got his first by becoming the youngest Spaniard to take part in the World Cup. He made the occasion even more eventful by becoming the nation’s youngest World Cup scorer since Pele who scored for Brazil in 1958.
- Bukayo Saka’s became the youngest player to score two or more goals on their World Cup debut.
