Spurs will be hoping to improve on a sixth place having failed to build on reaching the UEFA Champions League final just last year. The North London club have completed the shrewd signings of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Matt Doherty in the transfer window, and having kept hold of their star players Mourinho will be expected to challenge at very least for a top four finish.
Similarly, Everton have strengthened their team with Allan arriving from Napoli and Colombia international James Rodriquez has also been heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park where he is set to link up with Carlo Ancelotti.

The Toffees endured a largely disappointing campaign and will be desperate to improve on the 12th place finish they achieved last season.

Both games between the two clubs last season were tightly contested with Spurs winning the corresponding fixture 1-0 while the meeting in Merseyside ended in a hotly contested 1-1 draw which included the sending off of Son Heung-Min.
“We have to be challenging for Europe," Everton's Mason Holgate told the club's official website.
“That was our aim last season, and at one point we felt we had a chance, but we tailed off towards the end. We need to find a consistent level of performance.
“Some weeks we are really good, or we might win two or three games in a row, but then we don’t win for two or three. That is what we need to put right.”
