Nigerian track and field star
Enekwechi Chukwuebuka will compete in the men’s shot put qualifying round at Japan's Olympic Stadium on August 3.
The 28-year-old is the 2018 Commonwealth Games Silver medallist and reigning African Champion in the shot put.
Chukwuebuka is also the 2019 African Games Champion and the reigning Nigerian National Sports Festival Champion and he is now eyeing an Olympic gold medal.
Aminat Adeniyi will also be in action on August 3 as she takes part in the women’s wrestling freestyle 62kg event at Makuhari Messe.
The Akure-born wrestler competed in the women's freestyle 58 kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a gold medal.
Her compatriot
Odunayo Adekuoroye will compete in the women’s freestyle 57kg on August 4 as she looks to go all the way and clinch an Olympic medal.
The 27-year-old is highly rated having won the silver medal at the women's freestyle 55 kilograms 2017 World Wrestling Championships.

“Having an Olympic champion [Daniel Igali] in my gym, having a world-class coach [Purity Akuh], and my training partners are doing brilliantly well," Adekuoroye said.
"I don’t have any pressure going to the Olympics. I believe by the special grace of God; it’s my time to shine. So, I will definitely bring gold to Nigeria by His grace."
While
Ekerekeme Agiomor, who is a three-time medalist at the African Wrestling Championships, is set to participate in the men's freestyle 86kg on August 4.
On August 6, 19-year-old
Idris Adijat will compete in the women’s freestyle 50kg having qualified for the tournament after performing well at the 2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification.
Lastly,
Ayomide Bello is scheduled to take part in the women's canoeing single 200 meters heats at the Sea Forest Waterway on August 4.
The promising canoeist finished second in the canoeing medal table at the 2019 African Games and she also qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the C-1 200 meters.
