2019 Formula 1 season, Round 6
Monaco Grand Prix
Circuit de Monaco, Monte Carlo
Sunday 26 May 2019
Max Verstappen will hope to break Mercedes’ stranglehold on the 2019 Formula 1 season when Round 6, the Monaco Grand Prix, is held on Sunday 26 May.
The Red Bull Racing-Honda driver has looked the most likely challenger to the ‘Silver Arrows’ duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, with this third-place finish at the Spanish GP earlier this month lifting him to third place on the Championship standings.
The Dutchman has shown remarkable consistency this season, with his finishing record reading P3, P4, P4, P4, P3. He has not been able to challenge the Mercedes cars, but he has sure made life difficult for Ferrari.
And his teammate Pierre Gasly appears to be slowly coming to grips with life in a top team, as sixth place finishes in two of the last three races demonstrates.
Both Verstappen and Gasly should be excited by the prospect of a race on a tight and twisty circuit, with the sharp handling of their Red Bull cars set to be a big advantage.
In fact, RB have enjoyed great success on the streets of the principality, claiming four race victories, the most recent of which arrived a year ago courtesy of a great drive from former pilot Daniel Ricciardo.
