For the second year in a row Premier League powerhouses Chelsea will host fallen giants Nottingham Forest in an
FA Cup Third Round clash, set for at Stamford Bridge on Sunday 5 January 2020, kick-off at 15:01.
Chelsea come into the game on the back of a somewhat disappointing midweek Premier League outing, in which they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
“You get what you deserve when you don’t take your chances when you are very comfortable. Particularly in the first half,” said manager Frank Lampard. “It wasn’t so comfortable in the second half but we created chances. It has been the story of a lot of our season.”
Forest also saw midweek action in the Championship and defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-2 in a thrilling clash, giving them a further confidence boost heading into the FA Cup weekend.
"I am so happy for that, because it is positive for the rest of the season. Now we must just keep going. When the players are all focused and we play as a team, as we know we can, everything is easier. But I am happy, because we have three wins in a row,” said manager Sabri Lamouchi.
In head-to-head stats, Chelsea and Nottingham have met in 69 previous matches. The Blues have claimed 27 wins compared to 21 for Forest, while 21 games have been drawn.
The teams’ last meeting was in the FA Cup a year ago, with Chelsea winning 2-0 at home thanks to a brace from Alvaro Morata. Forest last claimed a win over the Blues way back in January 1997, while their last victory at Stamford Bridge came in early 1995.
