23-26 February 2023
Sepp Straka will be keen to make history at the
2023 Honda Classic by becoming the first golfer to win back to back titles in the history of the tournament.
What to know about Straka
The 29-year-old competes on the PGA Tour having been born in Vienna, Austria to an Austrian father and American mother before moving to the USA as a 14-year-old.
Straka decided to represent Austria internationally having competed in the Men's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing tied-10th overall.
He is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour having clinched last year's Honda Classic and KC Golf Classic which is part of the Web.com Tour.
Latest News
Straka was in action at the recent 2023 Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades in California, USA where he finished in position 45.
The former University of Georgia student's best performance on the current 2022-23 PGA Tour season came at the Sanderson Farms Championship where he finished second.
Why is Straka one of the favourites
Currently placed 31st on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), Straka is the man to beat at the 2023 Honda Classic as he looks to retain his crown.
The 2022 St. Jude Championship runner-up's performance at the Sanderson Farms Championship shows that he is still capable of recording a win on the PGA Tour.
Furthermore, competing at the PGA National Resort and Spa should bring out the best in Straka as he tasted success on the same course 12 months ago.
Quotes
“I wasn’t very good. I never really thought I’d make it as a professional golfer. It was more of a dream," Straka said after winning the Honda Classic - becoming the first Austrian to win on the PGA Tour.
“You try to believe that you can win, but until you actually get it done, it really is hard to believe.
“This course is crazy. There are no gimme holes at all. ... You want to stand on that 15th tee with a chance to win, and we were there.”
