Maverick McNealy will be keen to register his first win of the 2025 PGA Tour season at the Mexican Open where he will be the highest-ranked golfer in the OWGR.

What to know about McNealy

The American golfer was one of the top amateur golfers in the world as he was the number one ranked golfer in the World Amateur Golf Ranking in late 2016 and early 2017.

McNealy turned professional in 2017 and he earned his PGA Tour card for the 2019/20 season, via his finish on the 2019 Korn Ferry Tour, and his best performance in a golf major came at the 2024 PGA Championship - finishing 23rd.

News

The 29-year-old was in action in the most recent PGA Tour event in 2025 which was the Genesis Invitational in California, USA where he finished second.

McNealy is currently placed 14th on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), and his best overall ranking is also the 14th spot.

Why McNealey is among the favourites

McNealy is coming into the Genesis Invitational oozing with confidence after finishing second at the Genesis Invitational where he came close to winning his second PGA Tour event.

The former Stanford University student, who won the 2024 RSM Classic for his first PGA Tour victory in his 134th start, has what it takes to win this weekend's Mexican Open.

Quotes

"I said once I locked up top 60, I would switch balls," McNealy said after his victory at the  the 2024 RSM Classic.

"Obviously, Bermuda we didn't have the ball shipped over there, so I didn't have access to it. I said I'll play it in Sea Island, see how it does under the gun.

"Then in the wind on Thursday, it performed unbelievably well. I was really excited, every ball came out exactly how I wanted to, held the wind, went through the wind and that gave me a ton of confidence."
