2019/20 Premier League
Round 16
7-9 December 2019
The English top flight will feature another all-London clash when West Ham United host Arsenal on Monday 9 December 2019, kick-off at 21:00. The match is one of 10 spread from 7-9 December in the 16
th round of the current
Premier League season.
West Ham fell back to losing form in midweek when they were beaten 2-0 away to Wolverhampton Wanderers, leaving manager Manuel Pellegrini under major pressure. However, it was the same scenario for a derby against Chelsea last weekend which the Hammers won, and Pellegrini will be hoping for a repeat.
"I thought we worked well, but we didn't create the chances necessary to draw the game. There was the one clear opportunity in the second half and football is like that,” explained the West Ham manager. "Sometimes you miss chances and sometimes you score, so now we have to look to win our home game against Arsenal."
Arsenal, following the dismissal of manager Unai Emery last week, are very much in flux and looking to find some consistency and inspiration under caretaker Freddie Ljungberg, a man who was at the centre of much of the Gunners’ success in the early to mid-2000s.

“I’ve been at Arsenal for a long, long time I like entertaining football,” the Swede explained. “Of course, at the same time you can’t conceded goals that’s the tricky balance to find.
“For me happy footballers play the best football. That’s what I learned as a player. There is a time to work hard but at the same we must enjoy what we are doing. Often if the players we have they enjoy playing offensive football it will make them more happy.”
In head-to-head stats, West Ham and Arsenal have met in 124 previous matches. The Gunners have claimed 61 wins compared to 29 for the Hammers, while 43 games have been drawn.
The teams’ two Premier League meetings last season both produced home wins: Arsenal triumphed 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium in August 2018, while West Ham were 1-0 victory at the return game at the London Stadium in January 2019.
