Collin Morikawa will be hoping to successfully retain the
Open Championship having won last year's tournament.
The American star won the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St George's Golf Club in Kent, England - winning by two strokes over Jordan Spieth.
Therefore, Morikawa became the first player since Bobby Jones in 1926 to win two majors in eight or fewer starts.
The 2021 Race to Dubai winner also became the first player to win two different majors in his debut appearance following his success at last year's Open Championship.
Morikawa finished in a tie for 3rd place at the Olympic Games and he lost in a 7-man playoff for the bronze medal at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Japan.
The California-born star then won the European Tour's season-ending, 2021 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai - also becoming the first American to win the Race to Dubai.
The current year has seen Morikawa shoot a final-round 65 at the Genesis Invitational to finish tied second; two shots behind Joaquín Niemann in February.

“I don’t want to dwell on the past. I always look forward to what’s next. Maybe — hopefully — giving [the jug] back kind of frees me up and allows me just to focus on winning this week.," Morikawa said.
“Being a defending champion at the 150th Open at St. Andrews, you can’t script it any better.
“At the beginning of Thursday, it’s all a clean slate. That’s what it is in professional golf. It’s always a clean slate. It’s always starting new," he continued.
"But just to know that I’ve done it in the past, have that confidence, it’s just going to be an extra little boost to kind of start off the week."
Harry Vardon is the most decorated golfer in the history of the Open Championship having won it a record six times.
