The
2023 Tour de France has taken centre stage as top-class road and track racing cyclists battle to be crowned champion.
What to know about the competition
The 110th edition of the Tour de France started in Bilbao, Spain, on July 1 and will end with the final stage at Champs-Élysées, Paris, on July 23.
It is the oldest of the three Grand Tours (the Tour, the Giro d'Italia, and the Vuelta a España) and is generally considered the most prestigious.
The Tour is a UCI World Tour event, which means that the teams that compete in the race are mostly UCI WorldTeams, with the exception of the teams that the organizers invite.
Classification leadership
Jumbo-Visma's Jonas Vingegaard is placed at the top of the General classification (Yellow Jersey) standings.
The Danish star is followed by Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jai Hindley of Bora–Hansgrohe who are placed second, and third respectively.
Carlos Rodriguez of Ineos Grenadiers and Adam Yates of UAE Team Emirates are placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Favourites
The 2023 Tour de France was generally expected to be a two-way fight between defending champion Vingegaard and Pogačar.
Both had finished in first and second place respectively the year before, with the positions reversed in 2021.
Hindley, Rodriguez and Yates are currently looking to cause an upset by beating Vingegaard and Pogačar to the title.

"I still had a lot of pain throughout the stage," Yates said after stage nine of the 2023 Tour de France on Sunday.
"It wasn't so bad when I was standing out of the saddle, which is how I like riding most of the time and on a steep climb like this it's not so bad.
"That was quite lucky, but like I said a lot of discomfort throughout the day. The rest day has come at a good time, so I'll try and recover as best as possible and then we'll go from there."
