Prior to that, Madrid had won two semi-final ties in 2016 and 2017 against English giants Manchester City and Spanish side Atletico Madrid respectively.
The Whites went on to win three successive titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018 under their current manager Zinedine Zidane.
The legendary French midfielder is now looking to guide the Whites to a record-extending 14th Champions League title.
Madrid will pin their hopes of reaching the finals on Karim Benzema with the France international having netted five goals in this season's tournament.

Casemiro, the Real midfielder, says they are no favourites in the semi-finals as they prepare for their clashes with Chelsea.
“It’s the semi-finals and there are no favourites. We know it’ll be a tough game but we’re just focusing on our next match in La Liga," Casemiro said.
“Often, you don’t know when you’re going to get your chance to play. What they’ve shown across these games is that they’re ready to play for Real Madrid.
"It’s really tough to play in this team but they’re well prepared to do it. We’ve had some big absentees, Ramos and Varane are two key players but the others are showing they can play”.
Madrid will host Chelsea for the first time in a competitive match.
The last time there was a competitive meeting between the two teams was in the 1998 UEFA Super Cup in Monaco and Chelsea emerged 1-0 winners.
