The Toffees have seen their European hopes take a huge hit in recent weeks with a poor home record having played an intergral part in their fall to eighth on the league standings.
Everton have notched up just the single home win in their last 11 matches at Goodison Park following a 1-0 defeat to already relegated Sheffield United this past weekend.
"We played so bad. The only result that could be possible is a defeat. As we usually did at home most of the time, we lost," said a dejected Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti. "I have to take responsibility for this but I hope the players do too.
"We have two games to the end. We lost a great opportunity to have the chance to fight for Europe."
Ancelotti can't quite understand why Everton are better away from home: "It's difficult to say. When we try to put quality and build from the back we have more difficulties.
"We are more comfortable when we play direct but that is not the best style of play. For next season, we are going to change. We have to analyse the season. Certain aspects are really good -- away we did fantastic results, at home really bad."
Wolves' hopes of a top-half finish this season ended with a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur. It has been a largely disappointing campaign for the West Midlands club.

Everton claimed a 2-1 win over Wolves in the reverse fixture at Molineux Stadium earlier this season. Goals from Alex Iwobi and Michael Keane either side of a Ruben Neves strike led the Toffees to victory.
