2021 WGC-Mexico / WGC-WorkdayChampionship at The Concession
World Golf Championships
25-28 February 2021
The Concession Golf Course, Bradenton, Florida
Rory McIlroy will look to bounce back to his prime form when he participates in the
2021 WGC-Mexico / WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession Golf Course in Bradenton, Florida from 25 to 28 February.
Originally scheduled for Mexico, this tournament has been moved and re-branded for 2021 due to logistical difficulties created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
McIlroy comes into the tournament on the back of missing the cut at the Genesis Invitational in California this past weekend – the first time the 31-year-old has missed the cut at a tournament since the 2019 Open Championship. His run of 25 successful cuts was the longest active streak in the PGA Tour.
"It's tricky," said McIlroy after his Genesis Invitational showing. "The wind was up a touch, greens were getting a little firm. I think it was one of those days where it's just as easy to shoot two or three-under as it is to shoot two or three-over.
"Obviously, there were a couple of good scores out there, but you didn't have to do too much wrong to sort of be hovering around even par and be on the other side of it."

McIlroy’s best performance at the WGC-Mexico was finishing in the runners-up spot in 2019, where he was five strokes off the pace set by champion Dustin Johnson.
Former Ryder Cup player Paul McGinley believes McIlroy needs to learn to deal with pressure in a more effective way if he is to break his tournament win drought, which stretches back to November 2019.
“I think that pressure situations are more of a challenge for him at the moment in that he feels a lot of expectation, both internally and externally, but doesn’t seem to have a strategy to counteract what sits side by side with anyone so talented,” wrote McGinley “That, to me, is the root of the issue, as I don’t see any part of his game that is particularly weak.”
